Miles turned 6 months last week. In some ways it’s flown by. In other ways it’s been very very slow.
We’re finally getting some sleep on most nights. Let’s put it this way… we have more good nights than bad now… and to us that feels like a victory. Most nights he goes to bed around 7:30 or 8 if we’re lucky. then he sleeps until anywhere from 4-6 am, has a bottle and goes back to sleep for an hour or two. We desperately wish we could push him bedtime to later so we can spend more time with him but the little guy just doesn’t want to stay up despite our best efforts.
Miles also has his first tooth and is now working on number 2. Thank goodness for oragel!
Last week he had his 6 month checkup that included 5 shots, yuck! But we all survived. And Miles now weighs 21 lbs and is 25 inches tall.
He’s sitting up so well and is really into his toys which is so fun to watch!

This is a phrase I’ve chanted in my mind many times over the past almost five months. Being a parent is amazing and rewarding and awesome and… hard. Really hard. And Exhausting… really really exhausting.
We have been on the receiving end of a baby who does not sleep all night. If you’ve seen a photo of Miles you know the boy likes to eat… a lot. Including 2-3 times a night up until 2 nights ago. Every 3 am feeding I tell myself ‘this too shall pass… this too shall pass… this too shall pass…’
Suddenly he decided he’d rather sleep all night. We’ve had 2 nights of not waking up to eat. And Mike and I are more tired than ever because we wake up every hour wondering why he hasn’t woken us up yet. Surely this is too good to be true. Surely we will not have the same luck tonight… but for now we’ll just be happy for this glorious gift and hope it continues… fingers crossed.
And to other parents out there whose babies have slept through the night since 3 weeks, 4 weeks, etc… you suck. And to other parents who like us have been zombies for 5 months… this too shall pass my friends… I hope.

Miles wants to be constantly entertained these days! It’s constantly going from playmat to bouncy chair to someones lap, etc!
Well he’s finally big enough and strong enough to hang out in his walker for decent periods of time – and he loves it!

Miles is now 3.5 months old! he’s growing so fast! at 3 months he weighed 16.8 lbs and was 23.5 inches long. He’s now wearing mostly 6 month clothes.
He spends his days eating, playing a lot on his playmat, listening to books being read, doing tummy time and taking short naps.
Night sleep continues to improve but we’re still up a few times a night to feed him.
He is constantly laughing, smiling and cooing now. It never ceases to melt my heart.

Life is just chugging along for our new family and therefore our blogging has suffered. My bad!
Everything is going great for us. We’re still tired and weary, but very happy! Miles is a pretty happy baby most of the time. Unless he’s trying to poop, or he’s hungry.
Last week we had his 2 month checkup which went pretty well. He had to get 3 shots + an oral vaccine. The shots were horrible… mostly for me. He cried but settled down and fell asleep before we were even out of the exam room while I was still sobbing as I was making his next appointment. It’s heartbreaking to see your child in pain!
The most exciting part of the checkup was seeing how much he weighed. We’d be making bets at home about what the big number would be. 13 lbs, 2 oz!!! WOW! That’s the 85th percentile for weight. And over DOUBLE his birth weight! And his height was 20.5 inches. That’s the 1st percentile for height. And only 1.5 inches more than his birth height. So we have a chunky short boy.
After that appointment I checked with Mike’s mom to see what his weight/height was when he was that age and it wasn’t far off. Guess he is taking after his daddy!
Over the holiday weekend we did lots of visiting. One day we went to Grandma Fowlers for a cookout and the next day we took a road trip to Newark to visit my dad, mom and my friend Kristi. Miles was really good the whole day and for all the driving.
This Saturday Mike and I are running a 5K in Huron and Miles will be riding along in his jogging stroller. His first 5K! His name isn’t Miles for nothing! Then Saturday night we have 2 different cookouts to go to. First up is the Goodmans, then the Boones! Gonna be a fun day!

Today Mike and I had our first date since the birth of Mr Miles. Grandma Margie and Christine were kind enough to babysit for us. We went to lunch and then to see Iron Man 2. It was nice to get outside our new little bubble for a few hours but I did find myself thinking about him most of the movie. But I definitely still enjoyed myself!
Miles was not very cooperative sleeping in his crib last night. That equals a very tired mommy and daddy. Mike and I had to take turns holding him all night. Let’s hope he goes back to sleeping well in his crib tonight! Prayers please!
It’s been so great having Mike home all weekend, I hate that tomorow is Monday and he has to go back to work. I am definitely learning to love the weekends more than ever now.
Other highlights from the weekend were my first miller lite since labor day, Miles first walk around the neighborhood, and my first hot dog since last summer.

Ok I’m a few hours late but Happy mothers day! I am very lucky to have a great mom and mother-in-law.
Today we took Miles to the hospital to get his weight checked. During the visit we also got to do a feeding with the lactation consultant. Miles is back up to his birth weight… yay! She was very impressed with our progress and said he’s gonna be a chunker before we know it!
She also warned us that he’ll
probably go through a growth spurt over the next 4-5 days so to be prepared for him to be very hungry. And unfortunately he definitely prefers to do all his power feeding at night.
We are very releived and happy he’s gaining weight! Keep it up Miles!
Tomorrow ( or technically today ) Mike goes back to work. I’m a little scared and nervous for him to be gone but I’m sure Miles and I will be just fine. Say a little prayer for us!
