Life is just chugging along for our new family and therefore our blogging has suffered. My bad!
Everything is going great for us. We’re still tired and weary, but very happy! Miles is a pretty happy baby most of the time. Unless he’s trying to poop, or he’s hungry.
Last week we had his 2 month checkup which went pretty well. He had to get 3 shots + an oral vaccine. The shots were horrible… mostly for me. He cried but settled down and fell asleep before we were even out of the exam room while I was still sobbing as I was making his next appointment. It’s heartbreaking to see your child in pain!
The most exciting part of the checkup was seeing how much he weighed. We’d be making bets at home about what the big number would be. 13 lbs, 2 oz!!! WOW! That’s the 85th percentile for weight. And over DOUBLE his birth weight! And his height was 20.5 inches. That’s the 1st percentile for height. And only 1.5 inches more than his birth height. So we have a chunky short boy.
After that appointment I checked with Mike’s mom to see what his weight/height was when he was that age and it wasn’t far off. Guess he is taking after his daddy!
Over the holiday weekend we did lots of visiting. One day we went to Grandma Fowlers for a cookout and the next day we took a road trip to Newark to visit my dad, mom and my friend Kristi. Miles was really good the whole day and for all the driving.
This Saturday Mike and I are running a 5K in Huron and Miles will be riding along in his jogging stroller. His first 5K! His name isn’t Miles for nothing! Then Saturday night we have 2 different cookouts to go to. First up is the Goodmans, then the Boones! Gonna be a fun day!
I’m officially back to work starting Monday at 8 am! Very bittersweet! I miss work and my job and talking to my co-workers but maternity leave sure has it’s perks too. We have hired a nanny that has spent some time with us over the past few weeks and will be coming here during the workday to watch Miles. I’m so lucky I’ll be near by for some Miles kisses and love when I take a quick break to grab some coffee, etc but for the most part I won’t see him all day. Mike is also staying home a few days next week to play Mr Mom. Maternity leave has told me that being a stay at home mom probably isn’t for me. (Not that its an option) I crave working on my work projects and the joy I get from my career.
So we’re planning on a relaxing weekend around Vermilion and celebrating Mike’s first Father’s Day!
6 weeks old!
It’s hard to not sound cliché but Miles is growing up too fast. Yesterday he was 4 weeks old. He’s getting so big every day. He’s finally fitting into some 0-3 months clothes and size 1 diapers. Over the weekend Miles had lots of visitors. His great aunt Karen and uncle George came on Saturday, the Goodman clan came on Sunday and Sunday evening we went to the Jesko’s for Jeff’s retirement party. And yesterday Miles spent the afternoon at Grandma & Grandpa Fowlers while. Mike and I watched a movie / napped.
Today Miles and I had our first solo outing! I was so nervous but figured it would have to happen sooner or later. We went to Avon Lake and had lunch with Mike and then visited his office. It felt good to be out and about and Miles was on his best behavior too. We even made a quick stop at target on the way home too.
Today Mike and I had our first date since the birth of Mr Miles. Grandma Margie and Christine were kind enough to babysit for us. We went to lunch and then to see Iron Man 2. It was nice to get outside our new little bubble for a few hours but I did find myself thinking about him most of the movie. But I definitely still enjoyed myself!
Miles was not very cooperative sleeping in his crib last night. That equals a very tired mommy and daddy. Mike and I had to take turns holding him all night. Let’s hope he goes back to sleeping well in his crib tonight! Prayers please!
It’s been so great having Mike home all weekend, I hate that tomorow is Monday and he has to go back to work. I am definitely learning to love the weekends more than ever now.
Other highlights from the weekend were my first miller lite since labor day, Miles first walk around the neighborhood, and my first hot dog since last summer.
Mr. Miles is 11 days old! Time really does fly by. He’s growing so fast. We went to the breastfeeding support group at the hospital last night and he now weighs 7 Lbs! That’s 11 ounces gained in 3 days. Woo! What a relief to know that he’s getting plenty to eat.
Last night was by far the best sleep. He slept for almost 4 hours and then almost 3 hours. Amazing!
Grandma Kathy was also up yesterday for a visit and left this morning. It was nice to have some adult company!
Tonight will be my first test of being away from Miles. I am getting my hair done and will be gone for a few hours. I know Mike is more than capable to handle him on his own but I can’t help but be stressed. But, it will have to happen sooner or later.
We’re hoping that this yucky stormy weather leaves soon so we can get out of the house for our first walk. Hopefully this weekend! An hopefully next week I am brave enough to venture out with Miles to meet Mike for lunch.
Tomorrow Kristi & Sherri are coming to visit, yay!
Ok I’m a few hours late but Happy mothers day! I am very lucky to have a great mom and mother-in-law.
Today we took Miles to the hospital to get his weight checked. During the visit we also got to do a feeding with the lactation consultant. Miles is back up to his birth weight… yay! She was very impressed with our progress and said he’s gonna be a chunker before we know it!
She also warned us that he’ll
probably go through a growth spurt over the next 4-5 days so to be prepared for him to be very hungry. And unfortunately he definitely prefers to do all his power feeding at night.
We are very releived and happy he’s gaining weight! Keep it up Miles!
Tomorrow ( or technically today ) Mike goes back to work. I’m a little scared and nervous for him to be gone but I’m sure Miles and I will be just fine. Say a little prayer for us!
