So we’ve been having some really lovely weather in Vermilion which has Mike out back getting his golf game warmed up. I’ve been watching, and being sad cause there isn’t a whole lot of golf in my future this year. Right now I’m a bit too big to golf comfortably and I’ll be pretty busy the rest of the golf season. Well yesterday I just couldn’t resist and longer and had to take a few shots. It wasn’t pretty.
Mike and I spent our Saturday holed up in the hospital learning all about childbirth. We learned about everything from false labor to real labor and all the stages. We learned about breathing (we both almost fell asleep during this) and positions. We learned about medical interventions (and felt like everyone looked down upon me when I admitted I wanted an epidural). And we learned about post-partum care (which sounds dreadful). I’m sure the highlight for Mike was watching the videos (from the 80s) in all their gory detail. I mean really I know it’s educational but I really didn’t enjoy seeing the baby actually come out of someone (2 different times on two different videos!). I don’t plan on watching it during my own birth so why did I have to watch it during someone else’s? Ick.
But overall it was a beneficial day. I learned some things and I think Mike learned a lot. I don’t know if it’s going to prevent me from freaking out and yelling at Mike when I go into labor, but it’s a nice thought.
We still have breastfeeding, basic baby care and a daddy boot camp (for Mike) on the agenda over the next 2 months!
I passed my 3-hour glucose test, yay! But this good news doesn’t come without some bad. I am dealing with my first sickness of my pregnancy. I have an awful cold that is really kicking my butt! Being pregnant doesn’t really help since there isn’t much medicine I can take, or that I feel comfortable taking. So I’m loading up on the vitamin C and rest and hoping it goes away soon!
It’s been a while since I blogged an update. Let’s see…
Last week I got to take the one-hour glucose test at the hospital. I failed. For those of you who don’t know what this test is… You go in, drink this nasty orange glucose drink, sit for an hour, have your blood drawn and tested. If your blood glucose levels are too high, you fail. If you fail this one-hour test you go back for a three-hour version. With the three-hour test you have to fast before hand, drink even more of the yucky drink and have your blood tested 3 times over 3 hours. Not real excited about it! And if I fail this time around I will be diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Let’s all hope I pass!!!
We also had our first baby shower a few weekends ago in Columbus hosted by my mom, aunts and Grandma. It was a lot of fun and Miles got LOTS of great gifts!!!! He is going to be a very well dressed little guy!
We start our classes at the hospital next weekend, I’m sure that’ll be quite interesting!
My car recently hit the 150 thousand mile mark and have been running with the check engine light on for the past 30 thousand. So I have been trying to hold off buying a new for as long as possible since my current car is paid off. I have been keeping my eyes open for good family cars since we will be expanding to a family of 3 here soon. I have never considered a mini van til this commercial for the sienna.
This one is my favorite. I hope miles doesn’t drink all of our milk!
Yesterday during a routine checkup the doctor starting measuring my fundal height for the first time. She was surprised that it was measuring about 2 weeks bigger than it should. She then asked me if I was growing Conan the Barbarian.
She decided she wanted me to get an ultrasound to check out baby Miles and see how big he was. They happened to have an opening 10 minutes later so I got in right away. Turns out Miles is measuring about 6 days bigger than expected which is considered in the ‘normal’ rage of 2 weeks either way. Everything was normal and he weighs about 2 lbs and 1 ounce currently. He was moving like crazy but did flash us his penis a few times so it’s definitely still a boy! The only bummer discovered was that Miles is currently breech, so we’re hoping he turns himself the right way in the coming weeks.
